About this project

This study is looking at the seascape character of the coast and tidal waters between Laugharne and Porthcawl , and the sea out to the territorial limits in the Bristol Channel. We have identified twenty seascape character areas. The purpose of the study is to describe these areas, their characteristics, the change that is occurring, their sensitivities and objectives. This information will then be used to inform development planning and management for coastal and marine development in the area.

The study is undertaken within the context of a National Seascape Assessment for Wales which described our marine waters at a broad brush level  to inform the Welsh National Marine Plan. It also continues the local seascape assessment of the coast and sea along from the Pembrokeshire Coast study, using similar methods and approaches.

The clients for the project are the City & County of Swansea (including Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) staff), Carmarthenshire County Council, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, Bridgend County Borough Council and Natural Resources Wales.  The steering group also includes the Gower Society,  local archaeological trusts and other stakeholders. The consultants are a team led by White Consultants in Cardiff including Cardiff University Earth and Ocean Sciences.

Ynglŷn â’r prosiect hwn

Mae’r astudiaeth hon yn edrych ar gymeriad morwedd yr arfordir a’r dyfroedd llanwol rhwng Talacharn a Phorthcawl, a’r môr hyd at y terfynau tiriogaethol ym Môr Hafren. Rydym wedi nodi ugain o ardaloedd cymeriad morwedd. Diben yr astudiaeth hon yw disgrifio’r ardaloedd hyn, eu nodweddion, y newid sy’n digwydd, eu sensitifrwydd i bethau ac amcanion. Yna caiff yr wybodaeth hon ei defnyddio i gyfeirio cynllunio datblygiadau a rheolaeth ar gyfer datblygiadau arfordirol a morol yn yr ardal.

Ymgymerir â’r astudiaeth yng nghyd-destun Asesiad Morweddau Cenedlaethol Cymru a ddisgrifiodd ein dyfroedd morol yn fras er mwyn cyfeirio Cynllun Morol Cenedlaethol Cymru. Mae hefyd yn parhau â’r asesiad morwedd lleol o’r arfordir a’r môr o’r astudiaeth o Arfordir Sir Benfro, gan ddefnyddio dulliau ac ymagweddau tebyg.

Cleientiaid y prosiect hwn yw Dinas a Sir Abertawe (gan gynnwys staff Ardal o Harddwch Naturiol Eithriadol (AoHNE) Gŵyr), Cyngor Sir Gâr, Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Castell-nedd Port Talbot, Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr a Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru. Mae’r grŵp llywio hefyd yn cynnwys Cymdeithas Gŵyr, ymddiriedolaethau archaeolegol lleol a rhanddeiliaid eraill. Arweinir y tîm o ymgynghorwyr gan White Consultants yng Nghaerdydd, gan gynnwys Ysgol Gwyddorau’r Ddaear a’r Môr ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd.
